The life, evolution and death of an ocean wave.

Life of a Wave

by Martie Zuckerman

Life began infinitesimally; perhaps as a raindrop or a lady's tear;
subsequently joining the majestic ocean, embarking on a career.
A mere swell at its earliest; tickling toes passing by on the sand;
gaining strength and purpose; carrying a surfer toward the land.

Splashing off frolicking dolphins; breaking on the bow of a ship;
propelling all manner of watercraft; on business or pleasure trip.
Months of the rolling sameness, create a churning, roiling unrest;
dissatisfied with the daily routine, the wave becomes depressed!

Depression evolves to a tropical storm; the storm to a hurricane;
landfall occurs amidst driving winds; as well as torrential rain.
Lying atop a ruined beachfront deck; unable to instill further fear;
Life ends infinitesimally; indistinguishable as rain or a lady's tear.
