Summers by the Beach

by Mary Kay Bonfante

We spent so many summers at the shore,
The air so bracing, salty, fresh, and pure.
Grandparents sitting up with us at night,
Made playing games and talking a delight.
While days were spent at play in warmth and light,
A visit to the beach would be just right.
We children had to stay in line of sight,
Even when in waves of blue and white.
On weekends, other people we'd invite,
Making times so full of joy, so bright!
Our Mom came then, on her days off, for sure,
For family time was what those times were for.
