My Turtle Dove

by poetwatch

It was on Valentine's Day,
The time of love,
But I was going hunting,
When I saw my turtle dove.

Behind the guns and cameras
That were on display,
I noticed the girl of my dreams
And forgot what I wanted to say.

She just stared at me,
Guess she thought I'd lost my mind.
She wasn't so far off,
Yet, her smile was kind.

I walked out the store,
Forgetting the ammo and friends,
Started up the old pickup,
But the story doesn't end.

I went back but couldn't find her
And walked in a world alone and apart.
Then at a dance...there she was,
And forty-four years later we're still one heart.

Love does not judge-it is blind. Love is a minute or a lifetime. Love is when your heart enslaves you and you love it. :) Happy Valentines Day to all of you.
