A Veltanelle poem for Potlatch Poetry

Some Silliness

by damommy

It’s true the apple falls close to the tree
and never rolls away.
A fact that’s true, I think you will agree.
They’re found right where they lay.
When fallen fruit is found so near the trunk,
to gather them is surely a slam dunk.

I’m told a stitch in time will save me nine,
or maybe even ten.
If I sew two together in a line,
will save me eighteen, then.
I’m for whatever spares me any work,
and so I do those sutures with a smirk.

Now, Jack so nimble jumps the candlestick,
and never touches flame.
I see that he is young and very quick,
he's silly just the same.
Could he not walk around the taper’s flare?
In future, he must hold off taking dares.
