Friendship's Comfort

by Margaret Snowdon

I’ll tread softly
as I approach you, friend,
for your wounded soul’s
still sensitive to sorrow,
and needs the solace
of a peaceful calm, to mend the grief
and start anew tomorrow.

I’ll speak softly
as I draw closer, friend,
because your heart’s unsteady,
the hurt remains,
my voice will soothe,
become a balm to clear the path,
and break restricting chains.

I’ll hold you softly
in comforting arms, friend;
trust will not falter
should any harshness stain,
and as each day of care
weaves like a charm, peace will come anew
and there'll be no more pain.
