True love of and for my cat.

I'm A Soft Touch

by LisaMay

Here I am, my slave’s sweet pet.
My ‘owner’ thinks I’m the best she’s met.
We have our differences, but they’re few  –
she jumps to attend what I want her to do.

I squirm my way to her heart and then
she knows she has no need of men,
for I fulfil her desire for love.
Off her bed she never would shove
me out the door, because I’m true –
(not like Jim, and Fred, and Adam, too).
I’m loyal and constant, that is her view,
and every day our vows we renew.

I bring her gifts to the back door mat,
and who can ask for more than that?
A birdie treat I did not consume –
others see it as doom and gloom
for our feathered friends who all face death,
but I miss often – don’t hold your breath.

I was a top hunter, the best in fact,
with go-getter skills, there was nothing I lacked.
The boss of the ’hood, I ruled the street;
I scared other cats into retreat.
Now I’m an old cat, and past my prime –
that was in another life, in another time.

Home I go to purr and stretch,
while my personal slave will carry and fetch
whatever I want – some fish, some kibble,
then I’ll lazily slumber after my nibble.

I don’t stay out late to pick a fight,
it’s nicer at home by the warm firelight.
I bequeath my fur upon the sofa,
while I embrace the life of a loafer.

I’m a soft touch as her favourite boy;
we like to stay close for our mutual joy.
Here she is now, she’ll stroke my ears
and snuggle my fur to blot her tears.
A disloyal man has broken her heart;
she depends on me – ’til death do us part.

Then death came one day – I was taken away.
She cried as we parted; thus ended what started
many years ago. It is such a blow!
I will rest in peace, for our love won’t cease.
Wherever she’ll go, she’ll always know
the love that we shared just can’t be compared.
