Partytime and Strawberry Wine

by Patty Palmer

Out with the girls one Friday night.
We hadn't gotten far
When we decided to stop for a while
At the nearby neighborhood bar.

It's a busy oldies karaoke place!
There's not another the same.
And where does everybody want to go?
Where everybody knows your name!

We ordered up our favorite drinks
A Harvey Wall banger was mine.
The minute I took that first sip
I knew soon I'd be feeling fine!

I felt the earth move under my feet!
As I was drinking Love Potion number nine!
While feeling stuck in the middle with you
Decided Beer for my horses was fine!

It didn't take long for me to feel like
99 bottles of beer on the wall!
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right
And I was afraid off my chair I would fall!

By now we were all feeling groovy
Absolutely no pain at all.
Heading to the bar once more
Answering the last call.

Rowdy and wild we all drank our fill
Not worrying about the time
For this was our last salute to
Party time and strawberry wine!

The Drink Poetry writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write a poem. You (or your character) take a sip of a drink and feel different. What happens?

For me to be drinking it had to be a one-time thing since just sniffing the bottle makes me tipsy! So, my group was doing some nostalgia from our younger and wilder days. Hence, all the feelings that I had are from oldies songs. It may not be the best but I had fun writing it!
