Being That Parent

by Y. M. Roger

Chuck handed the homework to eight-year-old John.

“Here, son. You’ve got four incorrect. Bring it back once you’ve re-worked them.”

Incredulous, John took the paper. “But Frank’s dad fixes his!”

Patiently, Chuck bent to face him.

“Do I look like Frank’s dad?”

John frowned, shaking his head.

“Will Frank’s dad be taking the quiz for him?”

John deflated.   “No,” he murmured.

Chuck stood, smiling.  “I’ll be waiting.”

“Math sucks.” John trudged upstairs.

“I know, son.”

Oh, what I wouldn't give to have more 'Chuck' parents... I'm afraid the number of parents that are like Frank's are more numerous than ever. Either that or they don't think their children should have to do homework at all because their students have more important things to do with their time... sigh.

Here's hoping that the New Year welcomes new beginnings and new attitudes! As always, thank you for reading me! ;-)
