Pure Flame

by Xia Thornwood

How like a candle in a darkened room
Your presence flickers in my darkened life.
And smoke like incense filters through the gloom
To sweeten air with evil specters rife.

You, bud-young dream, touch all my twisted mind:
A fairy lantern shedding sparkles bright.
I marvel at this goodness left behind,
And I cannot but cling to this last light.

But yet I fear this flame engulfs my self:
My madness I have loved and named my own.
You will burn mania that I call wealth!
I fear then your embrace, fear the unknown.

Do I put out this flame ere it grows great?
Or do I treasure it? How choose its fate?
