Depression (Haiku)

by Elaine Chiodi

Control eludes me
Day light and dark night the same
Cloaked in tears and sighs

Secrecy is key
If someone knows, they might help
It's a solo war

Words become new friends
Written down but not spoken
To be changed at will

Soul lifts as mind drifts
Segmenting fear from the pain
Manifesting hope

Circle up the depths
To calm unfolding of truth...
Do as best one can

Pick an emotion and write a poem of any type.

Periods of depression strike me when least expected. I've come to realize that the feeling will pass by acknowledging it and allowing it to filter through on its own. My best writing comes with sadness.
