Hard to Bear

by Bucketlist

Free verse

The spirit lives dormant
Waiting for release
It's not to be found outside
It's freedom comes from within

The search is blunted by others
Or who we're told must please
We trust others to nurture
Show love to us as well

But by abuse or emotional neglect
The dastardly web they weave
Feeds our inner child lies to believe

The quest for love starts early
Is somehow truly innate
That while we wait to feel love
From others' labels and care

The key

Unwrap the power that's hidden
Deep within ourselves
Cast our baggage of despair
To free the spirit that is self
Feeling love has to start from there
