Take Time to Smell the Daisy

by Y. M. Roger

Running terribly late, Nadia wrestled with the sticky dough.

“Staaaay-ceee!”

Her six-year-old burst in.

“Yes, ma’am?!”

Without looking up from her exasperating task, Nadia ordered, “Grab the flour for mama!”

Stacie bounded outside, and Nadia wanted to scream. Couldn’t that child do anything right?

“Staaaaay-ceee! What the hel–”

Suddenly, there in cellophane fairy wings and smeared lipstick smile stood Stacy, offering Nadia a garden daisy.

“Your flower, Mama!”

Nadia’s frustration dissipated into mirthful laughter.
