A kyrielle

Where God Rests His Head

At close of day when molten sun
slips o'er horizon to its bed
and desert valley fades to black,
I wonder where God rests His head.

When night enwraps the outstretched land,
the foothills where the shadows fled
and finally the rocky crests,
I wonder where God rests His head.

Now nestled in an opal sky,
stars shine like tears the angels shed
above a dark and silent world.
I wonder where God rests His head.

With nightfall this expanse goes still,
all creatures to their burrows sped.
If He needs sleep like you and me,
I wonder where God rests His head.
