A chapter in the book Part 5 2019

In The Stillness of the Night

by Barb Hensongispsaca

Late in the stillness of the night
I met Him on my knees;
He let me visit Paradise
while listening to my pleas.

I could not move, my breath was gone,
the stars were swirling 'round.
The stench of death was hov'ring close,
my soul no longer bound.

I felt His presence as He held
my body in His arms
and knew that if I went with Him,
I'd be free from all harm.

I saw my mansion, felt the peace
He promised just for me.
My spirit wanted to let go,
my soul yearned to be free.

I felt at rest and free of pain
for just a little bit,
but then I felt His voice inside
and It said, "You can't quit."

I felt Him breathe the pain of life,
my throat began to seethe.
My body struggled to return,
my lungs fought hard to breathe.

"Your work's not done" I heard Him say
as on the floor I laid.
I tried to understand His words,
I sought Him as I prayed.

Late in the stillness of the night
death's hand closed 'round my own,
but God reached down to give me peace
and I was not alone.

I fully believe death came for me last night, but God said 'Not yet'.
