Tis the Season...

Twas the Night before Christmas

by Gregory K Shipman

The unmarked car slides to the curb. Detective Jones rolls out.
"Smokey," he says approaching me.
"Detective," I reply cautiously.
"Somebody hit SaveLot market after closing last night. Took groceries and a turkey. I found your prints on a screwdriver near the jimmied door. Sloppy."
My heart sinks.
"Then I hear old lady Foster found the loot on her doorstep."
"Now that screwdriver's disappeared. Imagine that. Guess you're off the hook. Merry Christmas, Santa thief."
