An eternal longing...

This Side Of The Window Pane

by Diana L Crawford

I am here
on this side of the window pane.

How I wish I could shatter this glass
and push past the shards to set myself free.
I want to rush bravely into your arms
and steal a tender kiss from your lips.

I dream of our bodies entwining
as we consume each other’s soul,
enraptured by the ecstasy of passion
from twilight until the break of dawn.

But you are there
on that side of the window pane
in a place that cannot reach me;
and I am here
on this side of the window pane
destined for eternal longing.

The ache is unbearable;
the love unending...
