Puddles in the Rain

by Jesse James Doty

Missed the afternoon with a twisted brain
No thoughts cohesive
Dripping puddles in the rain

Gathering ideas to sort them out
With no momentum
Like fishing without a hook for trout

Olfactory visions sending refractory scents
Reading round the embers before retiring to their tents

If ever I am clever enough to finish with panache
I'll challenge other foolish rules to rightly show who's boss

This tongue-in-cheek--I beseech you
To read what's really meant
Tricks the mind plays on itself reveals your true intent
