The Up Side of Elderly

New challenges imagination won,
creative ways that keep me on my toes.
The happiness in life is uppermost,
and I don’t wish to dwell upon the woes.

It’s not that I forget things, like you think.
It takes a lot of sifting, sorting through
the tons of data stored in this old brain
to find the thing I meant to share with you.

I’ve worked so hard to reach my elder years,
and now I have, I find they’re lots of fun.
With only three joints left that are my own,
I cannot pull and tug and lift and run.

But I have time to study and to learn
the things I’ve wondered ‘bout these many years.
Sometimes, my goofy ways, they make me laugh,
and rather that than drowning in my tears.

Yet best of all is I can speak my mind
and everyone just smiles and nods their head
(what they don’t know is I can read their thoughts),
but I get by with anything I’ve said.
