Autumn is a time for contemplation
Autumn Time
Trees of red, orange and golden brown
Falling leaves dancing their last pirouettes
Mosaic patterns fashioned on tawny ground
Sun turning from blazing yellow to cool silver
Moon and stars bright on cold crisp nights
When I walk the night, watch billows of breath
Form gauzy clouds as I stroll and reflect upon
Past life reeling from the canyons of my mind
Often too I review the joys of my present…
Have done many things, some of which
I am proud a few not so inclined
I reflect upon what was learned from
both success and failure, and ponder
What lessons do I wish to share?
I also think about what lies ahead
I am aware of my physical decline,
I’m not the same…No more the
Flashy athlete running free
Out of breath, can’t do it anymore
Mentally, it won’t be so easy either
I’m already forgetting names and faces
At times retrieving facts a bit difficult
On morning walks I watch squirrels
And chipmunks, scurrying about
Preparing for winter and I know
Preparation is needed for what will come
When walking or just sitting
I ponder crucial questions like -
Will my love still be here to warm me?
Will I be left alone?
If so, what then?
Considering all, Autumn is truly a
Time for contemplation and beauty
