Yummy, I 've heard

Pie, What a Wonderful Word

by Roxanna Andrews

'Pie'- A word that conjures so much bliss,
Somewhat like a true love's kiss.

Pecan, Strawberry and that strange one, Mince,
I've heard it said among pies it's prince,
But the thought of it makes me wince.

Then there's Boysenberry, Peach and Lemon Meringue
Are these the pies of whom heaven's angels sang?

So many varieties one could make,
Blueberry, Chocolate, and an Apple that's *fake!
You can make real Apple too, if you like to bake.

Out of the plethora from which to choose,
Ones that are firm, fluffy or ooze,

Pumpkin is my favorite by far.
I'd even be willing to jump in my car,

And drive for miles to get a good pumpkin pie.
A good pie can make one with satisfaction sigh.

As it sits on the tongue,
Like an aria waiting to be sung.

And then slides into your tummy,
Well, the only word for that is, 'Yummy'!

So if you ever invite me for pie,
Please, make it Pumpkin or I might not reply.

Actually, I'm not a pie person at all, except Pumpkin, it is my favorite. And I wouldn't turn down Chocolate Silk, but fruit pies I don't really care for, except Marie Calendars Dutch Apple, warm with ice cream. I can choke that down.

*There is a mock apple pie made with Ritz crackers. That is the 'apple that's fake' in my poem. You really can't tell the difference if it's made right. The crackers even look like apple slices.
