What’s happened to our poetry, the forms we used to know,
where every word is carefully penned in rhythm, rhyme, and flow--
each syllable we care to count is neatly placed in time,
and stanzas are made up of more than one word to a line?
Let’s write a sonnet true to form, a lim’rick or an ode,
a picture this, or story book, a chapter, or some prose.
No matter that the words don’t come; we'll sit and wait a while,
and soon you’ll be surprised to find you have your own neat style.
So scribe your thoughts and write those words to say just what you mean,
and fill that page with wonderment instead of short and lean.
Our writing needs to feed the muse and not to titillate,
pick up that quill and have your fill; let’s not procrastinate.
I am just wondering what has happened to longer poetry on FS.
and 2 member cents.
Although I do not have a problem with short poetry, there seems
to be a lack of long meaningful poetry.
