A Kyrielle for Separated Lovers

Autumn Moon Festival

by June Sargent

The moon is full and bright tonight.
Above the clouds she casts her light
across the silver crested sea.
My heart is sure you'll think of me.

Each family will celebrate
with food and incense at the gate.
Although your eyes I cannot see,
my heart is sure you'll think of me.

The moon cake I have set aside
we'll share someday with joy and pride.
When duty's done and you are free,
my heart is sure you'll think of me.

When I send kisses to the moon
inside a lantern-shaped balloon,
she'll guarantee delivery.
My heart is sure you'll think of me.

Autumn Rarities and Reflections contest entry

The Autumn Moon Festival in China is second only to their New Year's celebration. The roundness of the full moon signifies a time of reunion of loved ones. It is also a good time for matchmaking. The holiday is celebrated with family gatherings where moon cakes are eaten, often by a lake or on a mountain top. And it ends with the release of lanterns carrying prayers and messages to loved ones.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
