White Knight

by A Little Bird

My eyes were round with fright,
As my love departed for combat, despite
His assurances we'd soon reunite.

To save us from starvation; our desperate plight,
He flew courageously through the night,
Armed and deadly towards the fight.

He was such a fearsome sight,
That our foes cowered before his might,
And fled; such cries of fear he did excite!

With victory his eyes shone bright,
As his enemies without mercy he did smite,
Till he'd bested them outright!

The spoils of war were now ours by right.
Our hungry children hooted with delight.
And together we feasted till the break of daylight.
