How I became a poet

A Writers Life

by nomi338

All year long I tried to write a hit song
Despite my best try, I only made mama cry
She said: "Son why do you write such a lie?"
Mama you did nothing wrong, it is just a song
She said: "You should stick with the church,
Because the devil will leave you in the lurch."
I kept trying my best, but success was a test
The hits never came, I would never find fame
Satisfaction came about through a change of plan
Songs became poems penned by my own hand
Soon book after book was produced,
Author was how I was introduced
The door to failure was open and I was free falling
Until the day I found my true calling

This actually happened. I tried to do a poor mans copyright, mailing the song to myself, to prove by the date on the unopened envelope that I was the writer. My mother wondered who had sent me such a thick letter, so she opened the envelope and read the song lyrics and thought that I was writing bad things about her. Even though she promised to not violate my privacy any more I decided against using this practice any further.
