I Have A Flaw? Really? Who Knew?

“You’re kidding, right?” laughed I as I read the prompt,
“Write a poem about a flaw that you see in yourself.”
My wife heard me laughing and entered the room,
“It’s too early to be sippin’ some wine off that shelf…”

I explained it was not an early imbibe of some vino
Which ignited my laughter, t’was implication unfair,
That there could even be a flaw worthy of mention in
This husband, father, provider. There’s no there there!

“Seriously?” she then laughed, adding, “Let me help…”
Then starting with toothpaste caps, socks on the floor,
Toilet seats left up, kitchen cabinet doors left wide open,
Shoes not left outside, not even wiped - oh, there’s more!

Sent to the store for milk, bread and eggs, I return with
So much we don’t need. Beer, chips, salsa, but forgets
The milk, the bread or the eggs – maybe even all three,
“How ‘bout what you said to my sisters, with no regrets?”

When she moved on to my lack of patience, I admit,
Maybe I could be more patient, but I am just a man.
I do get frustrated in traffic, with slow movers in line,
With in-laws, out-laws, and politicians with a tax plan!

So, for the sake of this prompt, I will plead guilty: Patience
Is my flaw, but mine no less than women’s patience be:
Men are impatient most with things outside their own house,
While my wife’s impatience seems just focused on me…
