How it happened.

Within earshot

by Jesse James Doty

Through bedroom walls, I'd hear
My mother's sharpened tongue
complaining about me
even though I was young

It was me the one she blamed
I remember oh so well
Said I was out to get her
make her life a living Hell

Looking back at those days
my mother was quite ill
She thought I wished her harm
her voices taunt me still

All things within earshot
remind me of my past
I hope to one day find
the haunting will not last
