What Am I?

Even if you cannot recognize me in this photo, I assure you we have met. I live in your home with my brothers and sisters.
I shouldn't blow my own trumpet, but I am quite useful.
The lady who is typing this out on her computer never uses me, but other people have me by their side all the time.
I'm yellow, but I have a red sister and several green brothers.
You can buy one like me for just ten cents, but if you treat me well, I'll last a long time.
Some people throw me away when I become small, but computer lady says her grandpa kept the likes of me till they were just tiny stubs.
So... enough clues. What am I?
