In Loving and Leaving

by A. Willow Bends

when I venture from this Earthly place
there won't be one to fill my space
to love you as I do

my desire?

to look down upon the all of you
you'll feel my presence
sense the effervescent blanket I may wrap you in
for shelter
for warmth
to keep you from dark sin
but not able to dry a tear
or feel your warmth as I hold you near
nor touch your chin 'neath a silly grin
I will miss that

so you must prepare
get settled into life secure
not putting off things as I have done
forgive, forget with each setting sun
for time flies, breezes past
when my time arrives at last

I must know you have a plan
of kindness always
a family tie
so important when I die
my final plea
please grant to me

numbered days, the countdown on
promise, promise when I'm gone
you'll look each other in the eyes
and often gaze up to the skies
to sense my reaching down

in meteor showers, puffy clouds
rainbow hues and thunder loud
you'll sense reminders

a summer rain, a winter snow
a white carnation or butterfly
my reaching down from Heaven's sky
for one more hug and kiss
because I will miss you

I'll wait for you (do not hurry please)
leaning over on my knees
with arms extended
for when your time has ended

until then, hold each other close
fill the void where once I chose
to be
please, please do these things
for me

This, I believe is the one piece I would like to have read at my memorial service when I go. There is not the fear of passing. There is only the fear of missing those I will leave behind. I am sure when my time comes, I will be ready.
