Goodbye my beloved friend.

The Echo Of Your Purr

by LisaMay

Death of a Pet Contest Winner

Companion of my days and nights

Keeping your counsel, wise

Deep, deep the love to share

Inscrutable topaz eyes

I listen, still, with a heavy heart

For the tread of your soft paw

But my wishing will not make it so

You’re gone for evermore

Twilight time and I’m mourning

The light has gone out of my day

Dark, dark the mood of loss

My star has slipped away

Now, silently, on my empty lap

There’s no touch of velvet fur

I listen for my heart’s content

The echo of your purr

Author's Note:
My beloved Cubby had to be helped on her final journey to the happy hunting ground last week (she promised not to catch any native birds there).
Cubby was a delightful rescue cat with a lovely nature and a sense of humour. RIP my loyal friend.
The photo shows how she dominated my life for attention - the centrepiece in the midst of my activities while having lunch, writing a poem, and finishing a small painting. She adorned my life. (I did shake the fur off the tablecloth when friends came around for dinner!)
