Creation's Composition

by LisaMay

Photographers, artists, and poets rejoice.
The layout is landscape: a scenic perspective
to be captured in images and words,
from macro to panorama.

Arrangements of mountains, valleys, and rivers
are sketched in, then embellished with details –
a fern frond flicked here and there,
a waterfall, rock, or tree.

The swirl of the river’s flow, the light on moss
and bark’s ruggedly nubby gnarl
are brushed with texture and colour
by nature’s artful design.

A blurred vista through mist,
where watercolours run and blend,
is shadowed by scumbled clouds.
Words, blown away on the wind, regroup.

In a graphite grey storm,
the sparkling highlights of sudden sun
bring bright amidst the dark squall,
in the tonal balance of life itself.

How to portray background birdsong,
a cadence of rippling sound,
will be felt through empathy –
the lilting lift of music in the heart.

Essential inspirations of the soul
are revealed to the eye,
engaged by the mind
and moulded by emotion.

Motive and motif combine.
When the beauty of creation’s composition
is touched and transferred to you,
it finds a kindred home.

Every masterpiece needs an audience.

Author's Note:
I returned recently from spending several days in NZ's Fiordland National Park with a group from the photographic society I belong to. The park is a UNESCO designated wilderness area. The photo was taken from Wilmot Pass, looking down into Deep Cove on Doubtful Sound, where we stayed in an outdoor education lodge. We did lots of hiking and had 3 boat trips, so there was plenty of scope to be inspired by changing weather, scenery, and wildlife. I took 400 photos and wrote several poems, and no-one told me off for being unsociable. It was bliss.
