Like others, I write everyday (or almost everyday)
It makes me happy.  There is nothing I would rather do;
While friends are bored with television, I just type away
Inventing characters and plots, and making friends with you.

 No more volunteering, now, my time’s my own – I write;
No schedules, (unless mandatory doctor’s visits count)
I’ll get a thought while washing dishes, and with great delight,
Race to my computer, for “mind-time” is paramount!

Sometimes a single line from someone’s writing makes me smile
And I will jot it down or trust the brain to “hold that thought,”
Which is a joke, considering that it’s been gone a while
(I mean the brain,) it’s not retaining things the way it ought.
 
I need to keep a notebook on my body at all times
For funny sayings, quirky words, superb ideas, so when
Fodder’s needed for a poem or a word that rhymes,
I’ll have it handy, ready - that is, if I have a pen!
 
Sometimes, words I hear or read, will trigger an idea
Or cause a strong emotion, whether anger or delight,
And even when I’m sleeping -- not - (I need a panacea!)
The light’s back on.  I’m writing in the middle of the night.
 
For those of you who’ve read my posts, I’m sure sometimes it seems
That I run either hot or cold—a blow hard or a clown,
But, sometimes I write “deep stuff,” which my humble muse redeems,
And if it warrants praise, that is my crown!
