Justice Has Been Swerved

by Bill Schott

Half a jury formed to weigh the merits of the case;
a dozen had been called but only six met face ta face;
the others, the three pairs, met at another place,
so justice would be served, but it would leave a bitter taste.

The bitter taste of justice
is like swallerin' yer chaw,
you wonder why it tastes so bad,
there oughta be a law.

A verdict had been rendered and a sentence had been served;
a man was hanged for loiterin’, the public was unnerved;
so walk the straight and narrow boys, cuz if yer path is curved,
ya might end up like what's 'is name, when justice has been swerved.

The bitter taste of justice
is like swallerin' yer chaw,
you wonder why it tastes so bad,
there oughta be a law.
