Bushfire

by Aussie

Winter's cold winds have taken much
The land cries out for water
A spark can ignite catastrophes
She needs no invitation to roar
From the humble bush shack to

Million dollar homes back to back
Drought so bad, no water to fight
Fires crackle with such delight
From gumtree comes fire-fodder

Eucalyptus feeds thirsty flames
She won't rest until she takes all
Flattens the land, leaving smoke pall
My country is burning bright

She incites fear and dread
Merciless flames leap and wave
Evacuate, evacuate while there's time
So many homes, people, livestock lost

We are used to drought and flooding rains
The rains have not arrived this time
So fire dances, eternally destructive
Until the rains come to banish her
