There are wars and there are wars
That destroy and devastate,
Leaving people maimed in many ways.                                 
The war I want to talk about is in the USA—
The home of the free and the brave.
Americans against each other—it is a disgrace
To our country, to our children, it is tearing us apart.
One would think all citizens would look at this, our land
And have the pride and common sense to hold it “in their heart”
And nurture it and keep it safe from foolish souls who would
Sell us out to socialism “for the common good.”
Individual thought and ideas, both are frowned upon
And the freedoms that our ancestors fought and died for
Would be gone.
No other country in the world lives as well as we
Why is it some people cannot see?
 
This is what is happening; it’s right there on the news:
Hot-heads, working up to fever pitch,
Rioters, self-righteous, who are jamming up the streets,
Chanting, let’s take money from the rich;
Yelling out the slogans that they’ve all been told to yell
Their health care and their college should be free.
And who do they think pays for this? I should have to tell?
No one else but good ole you and me.
They shout and shove and fight, and wind up shooting our police—
In some states, cops can’t even interfere,
Leaving unprotected, all those folks who disagree,
Old folks, children, others that dissenters must hold dear.
“Do come in, illegals – oh, yes, criminals and all” –
There’re also homeless people everywhere;
Their city streets are littered with human waste and filth,
Their politicians? They don’t seem to care.
 
Shouts to kill the President I hear on my TV  
By rioters AND politicians, for the world to see.
Yet these are not “official,” they are not called real death threats;
But they surely sound like death threats to me.
Where, oh where is tolerance?  Civility?  Respect?
And that good, old fashioned act of being kind?
 Are manners gone for good, you think? Do parents even care?
The parents of rock-throwers come to mind.
Yes, there’re parents who do care and try to do their best
Though I'm sure it's hard to do with so much anger everywhere.
But, parents are responsible, and educators, too
Though “That is not our job,” some teachers say.
Students have reported teachers’ biased ways in class,
The students who think differently, I've heard, are made to “pay.”
 
 However ~ many teachers educate the way they should—
Excellent in what they do, impartial and correct
And we should all applaud them for we need those who are good!
I’m just citing those who should be checked.
The politically correct are taking all to the extreme;
Everyone should think the same as they.
Taking God out of our schools, yet Ramamdan is in?
Disturbing things are going on today.
Taking out our history that was written in school books
Removing statues of our heroes, brave;
Both these things are sacrosanct, the history of this land ~
We let the malcontents take both away!
 
There are evil people whose whole purpose is to change
The very essence of the USA
They’ll do everything they can to use their mighty power
To swing the votes of citizens their way
Then they’ll control the way we live and we will have no say.
 Subliminal brain washing with such new, high-tech techniques
They can’t be traced nor perpetrators caught.
If you do not believe this, I will send the video
From a Senate investigation that surely ought
To make you greatly fear and wonder where this all could go.
Moneyed power makes some folks think that they’re above the law
They want to change the way WE live but you can bet your boots
Try to take their guns away, their big, protective walls
No way, Jose—they make the laws, it’s we who take the falls.
 
I hope that all Americans will try, in their own way,
To make their children understand what socialism is,
To look at other countries that are governed with free reign—
Also at the several countries, who, with good intent
Let those in who look on them with nothing but disdain.
Other things, it seems to me, need fixing right away;
The main one is so obvious – that I just have to say
It’s past time for the media to just report the news—
Including Trump’s accomplishments and promises fulfilled-
No more smearing of the Pres. or giving their own views
It’s not their job to instigate ill will.

Other big-time "editors" of what we think about
Are the companies that own the website feeds:
Google,Twitter, Facebook, are, we're finding out
Influencing, with their misleading seeds
Of twisted bits of information you can surely bet
Readers think are true, and never think to vet--
And why?
Because, of course, it's on the internet.

Our country’s so divided that it feels like civil war.
Both sides filled with all-consuming ire;
Maybe if we bite our tongues and seal our lips with glue
Words we can’t take back would all expire. :)
 
One more thing I’d like to say, because it’s very true
To those of you who quite dislike “Big D.”
Conservatives were no less disenchanted with “Big O.”
But we complained about him, quietly.
We never harmed or interfered with those who disagreed.
No riots, rallies, lies or rocks or threats ~
I do not think that I’m unfair, although I do concede
To saying some things that I hope won’t lose me your respect.
All of us are worried, now, about our USA
Our way of life we all want to protect.
To end this war within – perhaps a good thing we could do,
Is “cuss and discuss,” friendly like—together—me and you.
