Will You Show Me The Way?

How can I find the way back to your heart?
Can I find the path to make a fresh start?

Will you leave a sign to say you passed that way?
Will I see marks in the dust as you knelt to pray?

Or some rocks stacked up to make a pile?
Did you know I’d come looking, after a while?

Did you build me a bridge to cross that river –
not leave me to flounder alone, and to shiver?

I’d hate to carry this loss until the grave.
I hope you’ll take pity on this wretch to save.

I tossed you aside when I thought I knew best.
Now I need you beside me – I failed the test.

Perhaps you’ll leave a blaze, carved on a tree,
imprinting there a mark for me to see.

I seek your love, and will love you in return.
Such a strong emotion within me does burn.

Do I see a flare of hope shining in the sky
from a welcome fire of love, the light in your eye?

Soon a blaze within me will warm my soul,
when what once was lost will then become whole.

Your hand reaches for me from out of the dark.
Now I’m back on your track – I was wide of the mark.
