A soldiers death.

Sandy Beach

by Willie P. Smith

He went to war a young man
Willing to do his best.
He fought in many battles
And lived up to the test.

In the midst of raging battles
He watched as many fell.
He could be the next to die
In this living hell.

Time after time he struggled
To make it through each day.
Before each battle, he fell to his knees
To the Lord, he would pray.

"Dear Lord, I'm no better than others
Who are Fighting in this war.
I ask for you to bless us all
That's what my prayer is for.

Help us in the battles to come
Let us make it through.
If we should die in the fight
Take us to heaven with you".

In his final battle
Returning home within his reach,
He died by an enemy's bullet
On a sandy beach.

A soldier that didn't make it home.
