Legend of Rainbow Serpent

Yalunga

by Aussie

He came from outer space
Yalunga with coloured face
Bahaime sent him to carve land
Rainbow serpent had no hand

Alone he made rivers in sand
His girth more than ten hand-span
Cut swathes for rivers deep
So myriads of fish awake from sleep

Kangaroo, emu, wombat and fox
All amazed at Yalunga's coloured sox
He had no hands, just his love for man
Yalunga rested, lost his colours, turned tan

Just like Bahaime above, seven days
He made the rivers in many ways
Spirit ancestors came to his den
Eternal sleep, he turned to ken

Returned to Creator in the skies
His work done - legend, no lies

Yalunga (rainbow serpent) sent from Bahaime (Great Spirit) made the rivers and returned to the skies. Aboriginal legend. Many serpents remain today. Maybe they are Yalunga's offspring, hard to say. Australia has the most venomous snakes in the World.
I threw in coloured sox to make you giggle. I have never seen a snake in sox! Enjoy.
