Happy Daze Amaze!

by LisaMay

My torso’s the trunk of a tree –
my arms branch out with glee;
my hair’s in a whirl, I’m a happy girl!
And now when I bend my knee
(the better to watch the ants),
I give praise up above for sharing my love
with the insects and the plants.

For all the creatures, great and small –
for the whale and the flapping dove;
for the leaves upon the trees
and the soothing, whispering breeze;
for the stream that flows
through the forest of green;
for the sun that glows
on the coldest snows;
from the sky so blue, to underwater, too,
and everything in between –
and that includes YOU!

When the sea’s in a storm
I keep snug and warm
while I stare at the rhythms of water.
I love the shapes it can form
while the clouds rolling by
bring delight to my eye.
I surely am nature’s daughter.

I’m full of the joys of spring
and all the pleasures
that season can bring.
From the fruits of high summer
to the depths of winter,
when ice can splinter,
though it’s often a bummer
you’ll never hear me complain
about the wind, the sun or the rain.

In many grim times before,
I should have been dead –
laid out flat on my bed, with eulogies said,
but this old duck just wanted some more.
Though times are demanding,
I’m here, still standing.

Now in the autumn of my life,
my senses are on overdrive.
I’ve weathered strife
but God, I’m feeling so alive
and everything is marvellous:
I truly stand amazed.
Dear Lord God,
be praised.
