Lonely vs. Alone

by LyndaS

Lonely paces slowly in a darkening living room.
Crying, she collapses on the couch and turns on the TV.
Wrapping her unbrushed hair around her left ear
she glances out the window and sees her twin
still working happily in the garden. She hates her.

Alone enters the house, sweating and covered in dirt.
She strips her clothes off and opens a cold beer.
Naked, she stretches loudly and flamboyantly jumps
on the couch beside her pathetic, sad sack twin.
Belching, she realizes she hates her.

I wonder when they will ever accept each other or
understand they are the components of my independence.
I take ownership of both but loath the conflict.
I toss tissues at one and a towel to the other.
Topping off a glass of wine, I hear their argument begin.

Gaining confidence and independence when you live alone for the first time is a challenge. even though you chose to do this. Often you do get lonely. This just represents both sides. Still working on finding the middle. Usually over a glass of wine.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
