Bright Hummingbird

Life Without The Letter A Contest Winner

Bright hummingbird –
will you fly without word of goodbye?
Your bliss I will miss.
When you’re nigh, I rely
on you to uplift me, such joy you do gift me.
I look for your wondrous flight
to colour my world with delight.
Must you flitter on by, in the blink of my eye?

When you return,
these surprised eyes will burn
with your colourful hues:
 the greens, the blues,
ruby red, with purple too.
While you’re hovering close to me,
I will see
your colours molten in the sun.
Looking for you is so much fun:
your wings close by bring to me this sigh.
There’s no song of derision in your pretty precision.

You belong with me, here.
I need you! I’ll feed you! I hold you without peer.
In this world of birds
I hope my words will show
how much you bring such glow.
Bright hummingbird –
of your lovely zing my thoughts do sing.

Author's Note:
There are no hummingbirds where I live. I saw them in California on a visit and I fell in love with them. They are so tiny and captivating, like jewelled heart beats.
