Betrayal

by Rdfrdmom2

Sometimes one knows duplicity is coming -
as Jesus Christ knew Judas would betray Him;
other times the treason is unexpected -
as noted when Julius Caesar uttered,
"et tu, Brute?"

Either way, the perfidy performed creates heartbreak
deep in the soul of the one torched.

A trickster will often double his efforts
to invade the inner sanctum of his victim,
thereby making the betrayal almost unbearable;
when this occurs between long-standing friends,
it is both unconscionable and life-altering.
