Dead fish eyes tell no lies.

Enigmatic, She Smiles

by LisaMay

stagnant
in a brackish backwater
sludge becomes silver-sheened;
under the cryptic moon’s unruffled,
enigmatic smile, dimpled, dancing light
shimmers the silken surface. Held on its
mercury meniscus, molten under moonlight,
glimmers of recognition falter, fail and fade.
As dull boastings are made, dead fish eyes
flicker, then stare in fixed surprise. No lies
will they tell, as muted moments release
the ones that got away. The breeze
begins whispering her secrets,
safe with all on the
shore.

Author's Note:
Lately I've been having fun trying to fit my poetic ramblings into shapes. I have found the best method is to think things up 'on the fly' because words and lines have to be chosen carefully to fit. So these 'shape' poems of mine are very much 'stream of consciousness' ones.

Why don't you have a go yourself and see where your thoughts lead you?
