Gone in a puff of smoke
Ironic Smoke Signals
by Spiritual Echo

Triggered by the lights and sounds of fireworks exploding, each July I am reminded of a profound lesson dating back more than thirty years.
Semi-trailers lined the highway advertising fireworks. Though I'd already purchased a modest assortment, my twelve-year-old son begged me to stop to buy more. Trying to live on a budget, and frustrated by my son's careless attitude toward money, I pulled onto the shoulder of the road and launched into a full-fledged lecture on financial responsibility.
"I won't see my hard-earned money go up in smoke."
"Really?" he said. "Are you sure you don't want another cigarette?"
