I Turn the Earth

I’ll turn the earth to plant the seeds
start watering and pull the weeds.
each sprouting plant begins to grow
   a thrill starts deep and then I know
this work fulfills my primal needs

A cutting garden supersedes
all other kinds of earthly deeds
   for blossoms putting on a show,
I’ll turn the earth.

Each stem inserted in concedes
to artful placement that misleads
   the casual glance you bestow
   I’m looking for a floral ‘oh!’
For blooms that move with ebb and flow,
I’ll turn the earth.
