Dancing Is Life

by Reese Turner

Have you ever happened to see those birds
Which seem to be moving as in dance?
Have you ever noticed animals at play
Or, in mating seem to dance romance?

Have you seen those old films of other
Cultures dancing around a fire, with no
Music as we know it, just dancing as if
A hot band's really rockin’ them to flow?

Can you remember that first someone
Who filled your eyes, touched your heart?
The one who first made you want to dance
‘Cause dancing’s a good way to start!

Ever dance with small, young children?
There were no specific steps or moves,
Just lots of holding hands and laughter
As the needle danced the grooves…

Ever watch accomplished dancers do
What most of us should not even try?
Did you feel inspired by that lovely art?
Did it touch you? Did you wonder why?

May I submit that dancing is life as
It is a window to the dancer’s soul.
To dance is to move by mood in time;
The thrill of self-expression is the goal.

Writing Prompt
Write a POEM in any form and of any length about DANCING? any style, any country. Are you doing it yourself, alone or partnered, or watching it at a performance?

Here in the afternoon of my life, among the few regrets is that I did not dance more! Now, I hugged my share as young man, and danced with daughters before they grew up, but I'm thinkin' I might have sat our a few that I should have. There was a country park when I was a young man and I remember the girls there liked to dance. One time, a dad might came by and said, "Young man, you're dancin' too close to my daughter." Later in life, God gave me three daughters and it became my turn to say, "Young man..."
