My Favorite Monster

by Cindy Warren

I saw a monster under my bed
With dirty paws and eyes all red.
Shaggy hair the color of mud
Big mouth the color of blood.

I said, "Monster what do you want?"
He said, "I want a room to haunt.
Please don't make me go away
Because I really want to stay."

"Monster, if I let you stay
You will have to pay your way.
What will you do to earn your keep
If it's under my bed you want to sleep?"

"All the day I like to play
And at night I keep boogeymen away."
"Monster, what is it you eat?
Will you be needing a lot of meat?"

"I eat dust bunnies when they hatch
And all the boogeymen I catch.
Let me stay and we'll have a ball
You won't have to feed me at all."

Now he guards my room all night
Eating boogeymen till it's light.
When it's day we always play
That's really all I have to say.
