A Terza Rima Entry

A Glint of Light

by June Sargent

Terza Rima Contest Winner
I wonder how much longer I can wait
for sunlight to break through these clouds of pain
that torture wounded souls and suffocate.

When life is dark and soaked with icy rain,
my heart feels numb and lifeless in my chest.
No happiness or joy can it sustain.

When basking in his love I felt so blessed
until that dreadful illness dashed all hope,
I curse the day Death signed in as a guest.

My memories are what have helped me cope
when loneliness takes hold of me and tries
to drag me down depression's slippery slope.

I pray that soon the sun will start to rise
with rays dispelling darkness, spreading cheer
upon the gauzy wings of butterflies.

"Look forward to the future without fear,"
I hear his gentle voice now loud and clear.
