This Little Wooden Box

by damommy

This little wooden box
holds bits and pieces
of my life
lying there in the lap
of velvety luxury.
Whose baby tooth?
It doesn’t matter.
I’m reminded of those sweet
toothless smiles
below brown eyes
so dark the pupils are lost.
A ribbon I wore to my first prom,
now ravelled at the ends,
the red faded like a dead rose.
Here’s the ring from a gumball machine
that I wore for a year.
Why?
My little boy thought it beautiful.
So many memories
in this small chest.
A simple wooden box
that holds the world
I love.
