Dream on

My Writing Place

by Gail Denham

Bio Contest Winner

Always thought I'd like
a quiet cabin in the woods,
with heat, kitchen, coffee pot
and no possums in the attic,

or mice having a meal
of my doughnuts, and certainly
not a snake or bee in sight
to interrupt my careful

plotting, writing, thinking
about what to write, where
my manuscript should go,
what I'd wear when interviewed.

In this calm, quiet spot,
with a stream out back, otters
sliding down the steep bank
and beavers slapping the water,

and certainly lots of birds,
especially hummers, cardinals,
and bluebirds everywhere,
then I'd be able to write.

By the time I describe
all this, while sitting here
in my ratty old robe, holes
in the sleeves, nursing a cuppa',

someone, somewhere has
finished the Great American
Novel, had it published, and gone
to New York to speak

to fans that stood in long
lines waiting for this author's
signature on the book that she
wrote while I was dreaming.

Alaskapat's cabin is close to a dream spot - course the place would have good internet, TV, washer & dryer, no rats, and not be too far off the main road, perhaps a few miles from the post office, a good bakery, gas station, and some thrift stores.
Come to think of it - it's sorta' where I am right now - except for the cardinals, bluebirds, otters and beavers.
So write!
