Children playing

Little Girl, Little Boy

by Willie P. Smith

I love you so, little girl, little boy.
There's mischief in your eyes, And you're both full of joy
Happy and carefree, Not a worry in the world.
Hair uncombed and pigtails unfurled.
Faded blue jeans and short summer dress.
What you've been up to, one can but guess
The two of you are different, but much the same.
You look like mommy, but carry my name,
You fill my heart, when I hold you near.
I thank God daily for putting you here,
You're the hope of the future, fate of the world.
But, for now I'll just love you, little boy little girl.
